Prologue B: Joey (Terra)

The rain, it continues to fall on the saddest of creatures. It continues to fall on the one who can never escape such a fate. My story, is none the less is a sad one like many others. A domino effect, I suppose. Take a seat, bring a box of tissues. There was no silver-lining in this story...

Seven years have passed since the war that started this all, ended. We were forced to leave the planet and live on this one. The planet was filled with war and violence. The beings that lived there were cruel to outsiders, especially those with gifted powers. Everyday was survival for us three. Yeah, just the three of us, Joey, my older brother, Ken, his best friend, and me. No one cared for us, not even the people who looked nice. We were too different, too out of place. All we need to do was survive until an angel came to take us from this god forsaken place. Years passed and the angel never came. We were starting to wonder if they forgot about us.

Everyday, was hell. Every night, was a hunt for them. They'd come out with pointy pitch forks, torches burning with hatred, and vicious faces. They chased us out. Village after village, no one would take us in. We ended up stealing to survive; even that made their hatred grow. One day...it all went bad... It all started like any other hellish day here. We were heading down to the market to get some food for the long journey to the next town. "How much food do we need this time, big brother?" I asked.
"Enough to last us the journey to the next town..." Joey responded. Joey was the type who would always plan ahead, he had black short-straight hair and emerald eyes. Whenever something went wrong, he would always freak out.
"How long will it take?"
"From what I hear," Ken answered for Joey, "Its gonna take us two weeks to get there." Ken was the type who would always clear up a sticky situation. He was like the clown in the group. He had an orange like Mohawk and a pair of demon red eyes.
Joey sighs and takes out a map, "That's going to be a lot of food to steal..."
"Not necessarily," I pointed out on the map, "There's a lake along the way, where ever there's water there has to be fish...and if there are fish then that means free food."
"Hm, if it takes two weeks to get there, it'll only take a week at most to get to the lake..." Joey carefully looks at the map.
"Then we only need one weeks supply!" Ken smiled.
"Okay then," Joey started to give us orders, "Ken, you go get all of the water supply. Sis you get some spices and the veggies, I'll go get the meat..."

We all splited up and did as we were instructed to do.

When I got to the stand where they sold all the vegetables, there was no one there.
Hmm, so i guess, free food? I thought to myself. I looked around for the stand manager, yet no one was there. I noticed that, no one else was around. I started to freak out. Was it a trap set by the townspeople? Are we going to face trial??? Are we going to get executed??? I kept thinking that over and over and over again in my head, as if the film strip was repeating itself.
I ran all over town looking for Ken, searching for Joey. When I got to the meat stands, two mysterious hands pulled me into the dark alley.
"Hey! What's going on--" I tried asking.
"Shhh!" a familiar voice shushed me.
"K-ken?"
"SHH! Do you want to be captured too?" Ken whispered.
"N-n-no.."
"Then keep quiet."
"Bu-but what happened?"
"Look..." He pointed to the royal police guards.
They had Joey handcuffed.
A guard had stated this to Joey and to all of the villagers that were watching,"For the charges of stealing from every village and deceiving the Guards from all the other villages, the king now places you under arrest, you are now to be put on trail for your crimes."
One of the guards, before throwing him in the jail carriage, bended down at Joey's height, smirked evily. He then punched him in the face then asked, "WHERE ARE YOUR SO CALLED COMRADES NOW?? They are letting you take the fall while they go into the next village and commit the crimes all over again! Ahahha, but guess what? They'll face double the punishment if they don't turn themselves in! THAT'S RIGHT! I'll personally make sure that they will get executed right before your very eyes! WHERES YOUR ANGEL NOW?" He threw Joey in the fail carriage and laughed as he climbed his horse and rode away.
We vanished into the dark alleys, running away from the town. When we arrived at the safe spot, my tears bursted out. I couldn't stop them from over flowing. Ken hugged me and calmly said, "Everything will be alright..."
"HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT?" I pushed him away, "Joey is taking the fall for what we did and now hes going to possibly die!"
"He knew the consequences before we even started stealing to survive." Ken wiped away my tears, "I know its unfair, but he would want us to wait for the Angel to come.."
"WHAT IF HE NEVER COMES!"
"He will..."
"B-but what if its too late?" I cried.
Ken smiled. He gave me another hug and promised, "I will not let Joey die. I will make sure, we all return home with no scratches and happy faces!"
I sniffled.
Ken patted my head and said, "Don't worry, we'll get Joey back. Trust me." He wiped away the few tears I had left, "Let's go, we have a trial to attend to."

As we left the safe spot, I looked back and had a feeling that this wasn't going to end so well. We ran towards the castle place, where the trial was going to be held at, using the forest as our cover. We knew that if we went back to that town, we would be turned in as well. Each tree acted like our hiding spot. Each leaf acted as our cloak. When we got to the castle, we found an open window. We jumped through the window and covered ourselves in the shadows, being sure no one is able to spot us. The trial reeked of vile hypocrites, criminals of all sorts, and impending doom. We watched and listen as if we were bats on a celling.
"Well, well, well," the king of this forsaken land had started, "Look what we have here, an un-want-able child? Why not just put him out of his misery~?" the king had an evil grin, curly brown hair, and the eyes of a snake. He had tricked all of his people into saying that outsiders that don't belong shouldn't be welcomed.
Joey didn't bother to look up.
"Child, do you not know that it is rude to not to look up at someone when they are talking!?"
"I'm sorry, your stupidity is overwhelming me." Joey happily responded as his he looked at the king face to face, "What is it that you want from me?"
"You little brats are all the same! You ask to live and what do you do in order to return the favor of me letting you live!? You steal from my people! You create havoc in their homes! You brats are just criminals, very very low criminals!"
"You let us live here? HA that's a laugh," Joey laughs, "If you really let us stayed here, you would've gave us a place to stay and food for us! If you really let us stay, none of these people would be treating us like outsiders! You would be treating us like guests."
"How rude! A child yelling at an adult, why don't you just be executed already? Oh that's right, we still need to find those bratty friends of yours." The king devilishly smiled.
"Tch! I will never rat out my friends! We stick by till the very end!"
"AHAHAHHAHA! STICK BY EACH OTHER TILL THE VERY END!?!? Now that's a laugh, if they were to stick together with you, then they would've been here right now with you. They would have turned themselves in to face the same judgement you are facing right now."
"That's were your wrong, friends never let other friends down!"
"Ha! Don't make me laugh, again! They have already let you down since they never turned themselves in!"
As I was just about to ambush the stupid king, Ken held me back and told me to wait for the right moment.
"They would've came to you save you right now!"
Joey laughed hysterically, "So you think your pitiful words will get to me? Think again, you have just lost your mind."
"W-what do you mean?"
Joey held up his two hands and pointed out, "Guess you didn't know so much about me did you?"
The king laughed, "HA! You can't fool me! The angel, Kingdra, told me that you shouldn't be using your power. Your a guest in my world, and as the host, I will never let you use it."
"Kingdra would never agree to that, he agreed to you having us stay here, but never agreed to that."
"How would you know?"
"Because," Joey appeared up close to the king, "I wouldn't have been able to use it, now would I?"
Both Ken and I left our hiding place and took down all of the king's guards in one swoop. "Don't worry, Joey!" We both exclaimed, "We will always be here for you!"
Joey turned back and smiled. He then looked back at the king, "Hmph, and you said they wouldn't show up, I guess that's where your wrong~"
The king laughed hysterically, "Do you really think its all over~? Do you really think you have me in the palm of your bratty hands? WELL YOUR WRONG!" The king pushed Joey back and unsheathed his hidden sword. The king pointed the sword at Joey's throat, inch by inch it was the sword was getting closer to slicing it. "Now now, shall we play the game where you die~?"
Joey's eyes turned firery red and melted the sword.
"WHAT THE---"
"Did you not know what my powers are? Did you not think that I would use it against you? Well here comes the fun part, watch closely."
The king grabbed another sword from his fallen guard and started to duel with Joey.
The villagers in the court room had blindly cheered on their false king while he was trying to murder someone who is just a child.
"Ken," Joey called out, "Please, protect my little sister, and get out of here as soon as the castle starts crumbling."
"But what about you, big brother?" I asked.
"Don't worry," he smiled at me, "I'll be back and we will all go home, together."
The king and Joey started to battle it out. Fire balls were thrown left and right, clashing of two weapons were growing dangerous as they started to get scratches on themselves.

As their duel raged on, they started to destroy the whole castle, the villagers didn't run away, they just stood there like states, idolizing a false king.
"Ken! We have to get out of here," I called
Ken didn't respond.
"K-ken, come on lets go, we have to get you and Joey out of here, before the castle falls down!"
The celling crumbled, all the glass windows broke to pieces, yet the battle continued, and the villagers watched and perished.
Ken turned to face me, grabbed me by the arm and started to drag me outside.
"W-w-wait a minute! What about Joey?"
Ken didn't respond.
The castle collapsed and the two fighters were covered in scratches and blood.
Joey breathed heavily, he was running low on his power.
The king smirked and said, "You should give up boy! You can no longer use such a pitiful power."
"Joey! No! Don't give up!" I encouraged him.
"Terra...Just stop..." Ken whispered in harsh words, "Joey...is going to die...and we...we are going to run..."
"W-what!? No! You said it yourself!" I cried out, "We're going home together!"
"We can't!" Ken exclaimed, "Just listen! We have to go! Joey is now on the brink of death, he knows if he can distract the king long enough we can escape!"
"B-but why??"
"Because, the king was planning to ambush Kingdra, and he knows that Kingdra would never go against the code...he knew that and he was going to strike Kingdra in order to gain what he can never have...Joey decided to go against the king and get captured on purpose in order for us to leave. Why do you think Joey told us to leave when the castle started to fall down? Now come on! Let's go!"
"NO!" I answered, "We have to save Joey! Please, we need to save him."
The battle between the king and Joey got worst and worst. The king slaughtered Joey. It go to the point where Joey couldn't stand anymore. He started to shake and shiver. He couldn't take the beating anymore. By the time we were trying to help him, it was already too late. His body was tossed to the side like a trash bag.
Joey stated at us with death in his eyes and said, "S-s-sorry...I...I...gu...guess I....couldn't....win....." He coughed out blood.
"Joey! Hang in there please!" I cried, "Please, don't leave me..."
"K...ken...please take care of Terra for me...and Terra, don't w..worry," He coughed out more blood, "I'll always be with you." He smiled as blood streamed down his mouth and his wounds.
I put my ear close to his heart to check his pulse. His heart was beating slowly. It was as if, the next beat was slower than the last. My tears streamed down my face and landed on his dead face.
Joey slowly reached for my face, and slowly wiped away the tears, "D...don't cry....anymore..." His hand feel down, harshly, to the ground. His last words ringed in my head as I saw his face turning all pale and white.
I stood up and  turned to Ken. I ran to him and pushed him back yelling, "You knew about this!? Didn't you!? You knew he was going to do this to himself, you knew he was going to commit suicide! Why!?" I fell down to the ground and cried, "Why didn't you t-tell me!?"
"Because, he didn't want you to worry, he wanted to keep you happy and hopeful. He didn't want you to trouble this kind of burden."
"IDIOT! I don't care if I'm happy or not! I-I-I just want my big brother back!"
"I'm sorry but, we can't revive the dead," He crouched down to my height and gave me a hug.
The king appeared behind Ken and taunted, "Awe, such a happy moment~ Too bad its just going to die, like your idiot friend, you are all going to die!"

DEATH STRIKE!

A deadly strike came from the skies above and landed on the king. The king's head spouted out blood as he fell to the ground. "What a pitiful human being," someone from the skies had stated. He fluttered down bellow. He had dark brown short hair, red devilish eyes and feathers of an angel.
"K-kingdra?" Ken called out.
"Why hello my son and my daughter." He walked up to us and saw Joey's dead body, "What a shame," he sighed, "I guess, he sacrificed himself for his own sisters well being. Come, come you two, we must take this body and properly place it next to his parents grave."
"B-But, why did Joey have to die?" I asked while crying, "Why didn't you come here sooner!?"
"I had to deal with other worldly business, I guess it took me a whole lot longer. Your powers weren't exactly mastered, you haven't even begun training with them. Your brother just wanted to use it to protect the both of you. He knew that his body was going to be killed."
"Wh...what??"
"All will be told when you get back home, now come along." He picked up Joey's body. He lifted up his right arm and chanted a spell. All of the rubble that was used to create the castle started to bunch up together and created a door. "Will you step inside and come back home?" He had asked.
Ken nodded.
I followed the both of them in. As we walked in, I looked back.

That whole day, never made sense to me. Joey died to save us...but why? Couldn't we have waited till the moment the angel was to come and then striked? Why did we have to sacrifice Joey?? Why did his body have to die? My only family member...gone...the only one I have left is still with me but....my only true happiness vanished right before my very eyes....

Another sad tale i suppose...a tear jerkier, probably not. A sad story, possibly so. A tale of woe is the only thing that goes. . .

/End?
